Seasonal Living in Spring Guide

Spring, what a delightful time of year. There is hope and promise when this season comes around. For many, spring is associated with the flowers, birds and bees.
If you live in a part of the world that snows, spring will be the final frost. The snow will begin to melt and life will emerge from the darkness. Much like us. We are emerging from our winter cocoon.
During my time living in Cancer, I remember the warmth of spring happened gradually. If I went for a hike, there was still plenty of snow on the trails and there were days I’d still need my coat. Now in Australia, it does not snow where I live but when we emerge into spring I am very ready for the warmth of the sun on my skin.
I’ll explore some of my favourite ways to connect to the season of spring. If you’re interested in seasonal living, read on for my spring guide.
Connect to the Sun
God made the Sun and saw that it was very good. Tracking the sun’s journey is an essential part of seasonal living. For it is the sun that guides our seasons and energises life on earth. It is the sun that allows all flowers to bloom.
To connect to the sun, learn what time the sun will rise and set every day where you are. Learn what time that UVA rises and UVB. Then see if you can be outside during these times.
Set an outside goal for yourself during spring. Hopefully, you will find it easier to spend more time outside than you did in winter!
Spring in the Garden
Spring is a time to get to work in your garden! We were made to work and a garden is an ideal location. If you had bulbs in the soil in the autumn or winter, expect beautiful colours to emerge in spring.
For those starting out, many seeds can be sown in the spring weather.
Spring Food
A reminder that our bodies thrive by eating seasonally. That means to eat food that is grown locally where you are in spring. If you’re eating food imported from another part of the world, it is grown in very different conditions to the sun in your part of the world. Often knowing what produce is available locally requires some research, if you garden you will notice what vegetables and fruits are growing and what aren’t. Check out a local growers co-op or farmers market to discover what produce is available. As spring progresses, more options will be available to you for eating local and in season.

Spring Homemaking
Spring homemaking is about cleansing. We want to open the windows and doors, allow the fresh air in your home. Clear out the stillness of winter. We spend many hours in our home, so let’s align them to the season.
As spring sets in, you may wish to take the bulky winter layers of scarves, coats and put them into storage boxes for the family. That way your wardrobe doesn’t feel cluttered or too full. Anything else you can do to declutter your home will set you up for feeling fresh in spring.
Spring is about creativity, so you may wish to bring a creative flair to your homemaking. Perhaps bring flowers into your home to display in vases, have dishcloths and warming spring colours in your kitchen.
Craft Projects
Continuing on from above, spring is very much a creative time! Find inspiration in the natural world around you that is emerging from stillness. Look at how the seedlings are popping up, the first flowers to bloom, the sounds of the birds and the waxing warmth of the sun.
Take this inspiration and work on a creative craft project.
With my kids, that will be spring-inspired water painting. Here is a great watercolor paint set to get you started!
Spring Reading
For many parts of the world, early spring still brings crisp mornings. This is the ideal weather for reading a book. Perhaps as the sun sets in as the day progresses, after work or on the weekends, you may be able to take your book and read outside. Reading outside is a charming way to witness nature. You can hear the birds, watch the sun’s path and witness the trees and flowers emerge.
Social Butterfly
While winter was the season for dormancy and hibernation, spring is when we gently start to find movement and rhythm. We begin to make more plans and connect with others. We are rested and renewed from our quiet and peaceful winter season.
For those of you socially oriented, spring is when you can become a social butterfly. Make plans and connect with others.
